2. Booking & Payment

  • Payment is made by bank transfer or cash, unless otherwise agreed.
  • Payment is due before the lesson begins (or at the time of the lesson for cash payments).
  • Block bookings must be paid in full at the start of the block.

There is no requirement to use a payment processor.

3. Cancellations & Rescheduling

  • More than 24 hours’ notice: lessons may be cancelled or rescheduled without charge.
  • Less than 24 hours’ notice or no‑shows: the full lesson fee is normally payable.
  • Joy To Learn Tuition may waive or lower this fee at its discretion.

This policy helps keep the timetable running smoothly.

4. Lateness

If a student arrives late, the lesson will still finish at the scheduled time. If the tutor is delayed, the full lesson duration will always be honoured.

5. Student Responsibilities

Students must:

  • Attend lessons on time
  • Bring required materials (calculator, exercise book, exam papers, etc.)
  • Complete homework or practice tasks as agreed
  • Behave respectfully during lessons (in person or online)

Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring students follow these expectations.

6. Online Lessons (Delivered by Zoom)

For online lessons:

  • A stable internet connection is required
  • Cameras should be on unless agreed otherwise
  • Parents/guardians must ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment
  • Students and parents may not record lessons without written consent

Zoom AI and Notifications

Some Zoom features (such as AI notes or transcripts) may display automated notifications. These features are part of Zoom’s platform and comply with GDPR. You will always be informed if any recording or transcription is active.

7. Lesson Recording (Tutor’s Rights)

Joy To Learn Tuition may occasionally record online lessons for safeguarding, training or quality purposes. Recording is not routine.

If a lesson is recorded:

  • Zoom will display an automatic notification when you join the meeting or when recording begins
  • You will always be informed if recording is active

Recordings are stored securely and deleted when no longer required. Recordings are not automatically distributed.

8. In‑Person Lessons

In‑person lessons take place in a dedicated learning space within the tutor’s home. This space is used solely for tuition and provides a structured environment for learning.

9. Household Movement During In‑Person Lessons

As lessons take place within a domestic environment, members of the household (including the tutor’s family members) may enter or pass through the area for normal household purposes. This may include bringing refreshments, checking whether a lesson has finished, assisting with practical needs, or accompanying arriving students.

Household presence is not part of the Joy To Learn Tuition service and does not form part of lesson delivery or supervision.

10. CCTV at the Premises

CCTV is present at the premises for general household security and awareness. It is domestic CCTV belonging to the homeowner and is not part of the Joy To Learn Tuition service.

The CCTV system, including any associated on‑site AI analysis, operates independently of tuition activities. Joy To Learn Tuition does not make any guarantees regarding whether CCTV or AI systems are active, inactive, monitored, reviewed or stored at any given time.

CCTV is not used for teaching or evaluating lesson content, but may be viewed for general household purposes (for example, checking whether a lesson has finished or whether the tutor requires assistance).

Footage is managed as part of the homeowner’s domestic security system and is not treated as tuition data.

11. Educational Outcomes

Joy To Learn Tuition provides high‑quality teaching and personalised support. However, specific grades or exam outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

12. Safeguarding

Joy To Learn Tuition follows UK safeguarding expectations for private tutors.

13. Use of Teaching Materials

All worksheets, resources, videos and teaching materials provided by Joy To Learn Tuition are for personal educational use only. They may not be copied, shared, sold or distributed without prior written permission.

14. Liability

Joy To Learn Tuition is not liable for loss of data, work, exam results, or any indirect or consequential loss.

Technical issues may occasionally occur during online lessons (for example, internet disruption, device problems or platform outages). As it is not always possible to determine the cause of such issues, Joy To Learn Tuition is not liable for any interruption or loss of lesson time resulting from technical difficulties on either side. Where appropriate, the tutor may offer a rescheduled session or an extension at their discretion.

Liability is limited to the cost of the lesson(s) purchased.

15. Data Protection

Personal data is handled in accordance with the Privacy Policy and UK GDPR. For data protection enquiries, contact: privacy@joytolearntuition.com

16. Termination of Tuition

Joy To Learn Tuition reserves the right to end tuition if:

  • payments are repeatedly late
  • attendance is inconsistent
  • behaviour is inappropriate
  • the service is no longer suitable for the student’s needs

Any prepaid lessons will be refunded if tuition is terminated by the tutor.

17. Changes to Terms

Joy To Learn Tuition may update these Terms & Conditions at any time. The latest version will always be available on the website.

Meet the Tutors

Clare Berry BSC(Hons), PGCE, MA(Ed Management)

Hello, I’m Clare, Joy to Learn tutor for English Language, Maths and Science. I have over 20 years teaching experience either working in schools or as a home-tutor. I have taught in secondary and middle schools as well as successfully home educated my own children at primary and secondary level including GCSEs and A-Levels. I have an Open degree with the Open University, majoring in Biological Sciences. I achieved Qualified Teacher Status at Secondary School level in 1997, then went on to complete my study of Educational Management at Masters level.

I enjoy teaching secondary school aged students and adults of all abilities, whether they are looking to excel or need to help to catch up. I celebrate the individuality of each student, focusing on their strengths and enabling them to gain the confidence to tackle their weaknesses in a secure and supportive environment. Often students struggle when they have missed out on some of the foundational learning in a subject. I make sure the foundational learning is in place before building upon it, giving students confidence and helping them to find joy in learning.
